The Florida Association for Food Protection recognizes that students are the future in the field of food safety. FAFP invites all students from Florida universities and colleges to submit a food safety poster abstract for presentation at the AEC
Abstracts should be no longer than 250 words and follow the IAFP abstract format. Students are also expected to submit a brief (200 words or less) statement about their future career goals in food safety.
Students with accepted abstracts are expected to prepare and present the poster at the AEC, as well as participate in the 3-minute student speaker presentation.
Abstracts must be submitted to FAFP via email at executive.board@fafp.net by March 29th, 2024
Each Fall and Spring semester, FAFP selects two students to receive $1500 and $1000 academic scholarships for the advancement of science, food safety, and the continued focus for protecting the food supply. The former is named for Ronald Schmidt in recognition of his contributions to food safety in Florida and internationally.

FAFP invites one student member to serve as the student liaison to the FAFP executive board. This student would participate in monthly board meetings and assist in managing the FAFP social media accounts, all while helping FAFP identify new ways to engage aspiring food safety professionals.
Each year FAFP provides financial support to students traveling to the AEC to present their current research. Check back prior to the 2024 AEC for more information.
FAFP donates $1400 in awards annually to the State Science and Engineering Fair of Florida. Additionally, members of the board serve as judges for the science fair to promote the advancement of food safety innovation.
